Teens

Teenagers who smoke or vape are in the minority.

  • 12.3 percent of N.C. high school students currently use any tobacco product (used in the last 30 days).
  • 3.3 percent of N.C. high school students use more than one tobacco product (used in the last 30 days).
  • 9.4 percent use currently use e-cigarettes.
  • 1.9 percent currently smoke cigarettes.
  • Teens who use tobacco are taking a great risk of dying an early death from one of the many diseases (cancer, heart disease, lung disease) that are caused by tobacco use.
  • If you are interested in quitting, there are resources out there just for teens.

Live Vape Free

Live Vape Free is an interactive, text-based e-cigarette cessation program for teens aged 13-17 and young adults. Learn more here. Adults can participate in the Live Vape Free parent program here.

Quit the Hit

Quit the Hit is a vaping cessation program that assigns youth – aged 13-17 – to Instagram groups where they work for five weeks with an adult facilitator. Members of the group also help each other in their efforts to quit vaping. Learn more here.

This is Quitting

This is Quitting is a Truth Initiative texting cessation program to help teens and young adults quit e-cigarette use of vaping.
